Considered, not fast
We take fewer projects and give each the time it needs. Slow is how buildings end up feeling inevitable.
About the practice
Studio Nord is an architecture practice on the Nordic coast, working across homes, culture, and the workplace. We keep the studio small on purpose — so every commission has a partner's attention from the first sketch to the last detail.
The practice was founded in Reykjavík in 2011 by Ingrid Sør and Anders Voll, who had spent a decade building for other studios and wanted to work more slowly and more completely — to stay with a project long enough to get it right.
We work in section and in daylight. Before a plan is fixed we test it against the site: how the light falls through the year, how a room is entered, what a wall is made of and how it will weather. Nothing is specified that we would not be happy to live beside in twenty years.
Today the studio is a team of eight, taking on a handful of new commissions each year across Iceland, Norway, and Denmark. We remain deliberately selective — we take the work we can give our full attention, and we decline the rest.
We take fewer projects and give each the time it needs. Slow is how buildings end up feeling inevitable.
Every drawing is ours. We do not hand the details to someone else — the care is in the joints.
We specify for the long run: honest materials, generous daylight, and rooms that improve with use.
A building should feel inevitable — as if the site had been waiting for it.
